Are you pregnant and living in Oakville?

Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital

Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital

Have you started to consider where you might want to deliver your baby? Some choose to deliver their baby within the comfort of their own home with midwives, while others prefer to give birth in the hospital. Regardless of the setting, Graceful Birth Doulas will meet you where you are and work with your healthcare team to deliver your baby.

Among the many hospitals that we service, we are excited to be working at the newly opened Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) at Third Line and Dundas.

The Oakville hospital is staffed by a great birthing team including OBGYN’s and nurses and the new home of the Community Midwives of Halton http://www.communitymidwivesofhalton.com, as well as many of the OBGYN’s offices.

I was fortunate to take a tour of the new Oakville Hospital Maternal Child unit in October before it opened to the public. Well the day has finally arrived when it has opened it’s doors to accept patients this week on Sunday December 13th. I was impressed by the calm and soothing environment they have created in the new unit and the features that will enable family-centred care. Among the many new features are a few to note:

1) Labour Birth Recovery Postpartum (LBRP) single patient rooms
There are 11 LBRP single patient rooms with private washrooms and showers. Each room has a pullout couch allowing the woman’s partner to stay throughout the whole birthing experience. There are also two jacuzzi tubs, one situated in the birthing unit and the other near the early labour lounge.

2) Larger birthing rooms for multiples
There are also two larger birthing rooms that will accommodate the birth of multiples and the extra equipment needed for their birth. Allowing for a more graceful twin birth experience!

3) New triage
The triage area has private exam rooms, with access to a bathroom which are much more spacious and private. This is where you will be assessed prior to admission.

4) Postpartum suites
If you are staying at the hospital overnight there are 18 postpartum rooms.

5) Prenatal clinic improvements
The new hospital will also see improvements in its prenatal clinic which has increased in size, includes private exam rooms with access to a bathroom and where pregnant women can have access to new technology if required.

Graceful Birth Doulas are excited about these new additions to the hospital and feel they will help provide birthing mothers with a more comfortable and family-centred birth experience. We are looking forward to supporting labouring women and their families at this wonderful new hospital.
